The Island of Dr. Moreau is an 1896 science fiction classic written by H.G. Wells. The story explores the themes of scientific extremism, body horror and the nature of humanity itself, with Wells himself describing the story as "an exercise in youthful blasphemy."

The Island of Dr. Moreau is an 1896 science fiction classic written by H.G. Wells. The story explores the themes of scientific extremism, body horror and the nature of humanity itself, with Wells himself describing the story as "an exercise in youthful blasphemy."

With how dark and grim the story is, I decided to match that theme,

a mix of dark, muddy browns and greens with a hint of fiery red and

yellow light to highlight the chaos that inevitably ensues within the story.

Along with the outside illustrations, I also created a custom typesetting

template for the inside of the book, which was a whole other project in of itself.

Front/back covers, I highlighted a single character for the covers: the Ape-man,

like many of the beast-folk, he is a tragic character, believing himself to

be "more human" than the rest simply for the fact that he had five fingers

and opposable thumbs like the human main character of the story.
